WHAT: West Lot repaving, East Lot repair & repainting, and campus lighting improvements.
WHY: Last year, our Emergency Preparedness Team ran a campus safety survey. Poor lighting in the parking lots came back as the number one concern. At the same time, the West Lot is in need of major repair.
WHY NOW:
Installing new lighting while the West Lot is already being repaved is far more cost-effective than digging up a newly paved surface later. Doing both at once saves money & disruption.
WHO BENEFITS:
Parishioners, school families, staff, and everyone who attends events at Blessed Sacrament Church, School & on our campus - especially during dark winter mornings & evenings.
ESTIMATED PROJECT COST:
Approximately $140,000, covering West Lot repaving and striping, new LED lighting & controls, East Lot maintenance and repainting and contingency.
CURRENT STATUS:
After reviewing multiple proposals, a paving contractor has been selected. Lighting contractor proposals are being reviewed. After a lighting contractor is selected, final engineering, City of Madison review, and permitting will follow. The paving estimate will be updated before the project moves forward. If $140,000 in committed funds is raised by Labor Day, the project is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving, weather permitting.
LIGHTING APPROACH:
New LED features will be Dark Sky compliant and designed to meet City of Madison site lighting standards, including limits on light spilling onto neighboring properties.
