First Communion & First Reconciliation

Preparing for First Communion at Blessed Sacrament has two parts:

1. Two Years of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Children prepare over two years through Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), whether they attend Blessed Sacrament School or our parish religious education program. CGS forms the foundation of First Communion preparation for every child. This preparation usually takes place during first and second grade.

If your child is not enrolled at Blessed Sacrament School, register for CGS through the parish. Learn more and register for CGS here

A Note for the 2026–2027 School Year: Beginning this year, we are moving to a two-year preparation model, starting in first grade. Families with a first-grade child are invited to begin CGS this year as the first of their two years of preparation, with First Communion to follow the year after, in second grade. Families with a second-grade child this year may complete preparation in one year, as in past years, and receive First Communion this spring.

2. Immediate Preparation. In the year your child will receive First Communion, they'll also take part in immediate preparation, which includes a banner-making activity and a retreat, leading into First Reconciliation and First Communion.
