OUR MOTTO: LAUDARE, BENEDICERE, PRAEDICARE (TO PRAISE, TO BLESS, TO PREACH)
The Laity of St. Dominic are those faithful who, baptized in the Catholic Church or received into her, confirmed and in full communion of faith, sacraments, and ecclesiastical governance, are called by a special vocation to progress in the Christian way of life and to animate temporal things through the charism of St. Dominic.
~General Declarations of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic 1.§ 1, 2019
Lay Dominicans are Catholic lay people who live a truly sacramental life so that our lives are Christocentric, centered on Jesus Christ. We come from all walks of life, all professions and backgrounds, yet we have a common drive: to bring souls to Christ. We understand how God is relevant in today’s world, and our joy is rooted in helping others to understand the same. Once a month we set time aside to be in community- praying together, studying spirituality and theology, and performing regular service for others. As part of the larger Dominican Family worldwide, Lay Dominicans strive to keep alive the spirit of St. Dominic's preaching in new and creative ways to meet the needs of our time.
Every baptized and confirmed Catholic is called to evangelize. The call to be a Lay Dominican is more focused. The Order of Preachers rests on four pillars: Study, Prayer, Community, and Mission. What sets our order apart from the others is our focus on study. Do you like to read and study? Are you seeking a deeper life in Christ while living in the world? Do you yearn for others to understand the importance of choosing Christ over the world? Discernment is an important part of any formation, and we will help you every step of the way. Come and check us out. You might find that you, too, are called to preach.
